 Donation Guidelines
"Give it to Goodwill"

The goal of Goodwill Industries of South Mississippi,  is to help people with disabilities and other barriers to employment prepare and find jobs in the community.  This goal is accomplished through the sale of donated items.

We realize that you make your donations to Goodwill because you want to see those items benefit those  we serve.  It is our objective to process every donation for that purpose. Therefore, we ask that you not leave items outside our donation sites before or after operating hours, as they are exposed to the elements and may be vandalized or stolen. Not only does this create the possibility that your donation will not be received by Goodwill, but it also creates an unsightly scene for our community. So, to ensure that your donations get to Goodwill, please donate ONLY during donation center and store hours. To find locations, and their hours of operation, visit our Donation Locations page.  Donations are also accepted at each of our Retail Stores

Listed below are "green items" that we are always in need of and "red items" that we are unable to accept because of repair expense or environmental regulations.

The attendants/sales associates on duty have been instructed to turn down any donations that they believe will not benefit Goodwill.  Items that are in good working order are the most beneficial for our programs.  We have limited ability to repair broken items, and the disposal of such items takes away from our mission and programs.

Receipts can only be issued at the time of a donation by the attendant. The receipt given to a donor by an attendant is the only copy and therefore should be kept in a safe place. Goodwill does not keep permanent records of donations.  According to the IRS, donors are responsible for documenting their own deductions and assessing its value.  Employees of Goodwill are not able to place a value on any donation.  For more information, visit our Tax Information page.

Donors do not receive any goods or services in return for their contributions. Therefore, their donations are tax deductible.
