Now more than ever, we need your generosity as COVID-19 has impacted our community.
Hello Fellow South Mississippi Resident,
We hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. These are unprecedented times as the situation around COVID-19 is changing rapidly. Please read below as we inform you on what Goodwill of South Mississippi is doing to continue the mission forward, and how you can help us in this mission.
All 16 of our Goodwill Retail Stores and Workforce Development Centers in South Mississippi have temporarily closed due to the shelter in place order from our Governor. We agreed for the safety of our shoppers, donors, job seekers and Goodwill team members that this was the best course of action. While our stores and workforce centers have closed temporarily, Goodwill South Mississippi is committed to Empowering Individuals, Strengthening Families and Building Stronger Communities.
We’re providing drive-thru COVID-19 testing at a Goodwill location in partnership with Coastal Family Health Center and assisting Feeding the Gulf Coast with food distribution. We are continuing to be on the front lines.
The closure has left us without critical funding to operate our programs. These programs help to remove barriers to employment for the most vulnerable residents in our communities and help them prepare for jobs in South Mississippi.
They are individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, or individuals that are having a hard time finding work. They are also people who are applying for or are receiving public assistance, many of them single parents living on minimal resources. These residents are our neighbors, and our community.
This crisis has made their lives more challenging than ever. To meet this challenge, we have dramatically streamlined our operations and are focused on keeping people with disabilities employed, through our partner locations. At the same time, our team is quickly responding to the crisis by helping our vulnerable neighbors by providing information on emergency food resources, unemployment processes, health care and housing information. With your help, we can deploy virtual services to prepare job seekers in South Mississippi for their next employment/career opportunity.
Many people have asked what they can do to support us in this time of great need. In response, we have set up the COVID-19 Goodwill Crisis Response/ Emerge Strong Fund. These funds would help cover costs ensuring our clients with disabilities continue working and get the support they need as well as broaden our reach by providing virtual job readiness for any community member that would like to utilize it to get them prepared for their next job.
If you can help, we would greatly appreciate a gift of any size.
You monetary donation can help support:
$20 Gift allows 1 hr of case management support for a client with disabilities, that is working.
$100 Gift allows us to provide the community with emerging resource referrals and walk them through how to apply.
$200 Gift provides a Chromebook to a Goodwill instructor to provide classes virtually or in person.
