Goodwill of South Mississippi Appears on WLOX to Promote Literacy Program & Golf Tournament

Goodwill South Mississippi was recently featured on local news station WLOX as the organization continues spreading awareness about its newest community initiative, Goodwill Reads, and its upcoming fundraising golf tournament, Birdies for Books.

Director of Mission Services & Fund Development Jeannine Johnston, Goodwill Reads Program Manager Jennifer Crawford, and Goodwill South Mississippi’s mascot, Sunny the Smiling G, appeared on the station’s local program to discuss the mission behind the new literacy program and how the community can get involved.

During the segment, the team shared how Goodwill Reads was created to help encourage childhood literacy throughout South Mississippi by visiting local classrooms, reading to students, and providing children with books they can take home and keep. Through a partnership with United Way of South Mississippi, the program aims to create meaningful moments that inspire children to develop a love for reading while also strengthening community connections.

The interview also highlighted Goodwill South Mississippi’s upcoming golf tournament, Birdies for Books, which will help raise funds to support and grow the Goodwill Reads program. The tournament will take place on August 27 at Windance Country Club and will bring together local businesses, sponsors, and community members for a day focused on giving back.

Goodwill South Mississippi continues to emphasize that the organization is about more than retail stores — it is about creating opportunities, strengthening the community, and making a lasting impact throughout South Mississippi.
