A new golf tournament with a meaningful mission is teeing off on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Birdies for Books, hosted by Goodwill of South Mississippi, will take place August 27th at Windance Country Club in Biloxi, MS, bringing the community together for a day on the green while supporting early childhood literacy through the organization’s newest initiative, Goodwill Reads.
Proceeds from the Birdies for Books tournament will directly benefit Goodwill Reads, a program dedicated to promoting a love of reading among children across the Gulf Coast. Through this initiative, new and gently used books are collected and distributed to local schools, childcare centers, and community organizations, placing books directly into the hands of children who need them most.
“Birdies for Books is more than just a golf tournament, it’s an opportunity to make a lasting impact in our community,” said Jennifer Crawford, Goodwill Reads Program Manager. “Every swing, every team, and every sponsor helps us put books into the hands of local children and inspire a lifelong love of reading.”
Goodwill Reads also encourages community involvement through volunteer opportunities such as hosting book drives, sorting donations, and reading to children in local classrooms. The program is designed to not only improve literacy rates but also create meaningful connections between volunteers and the children they serve.
The Birdies for Books tournament invites golfers of all skill levels to participate, with teams, sponsors, and community partners all playing a role in advancing this important cause.
By combining the excitement of golf with the power of giving back, Birdies for Books is set to become a signature event that supports brighter futures one book at a time.
